Sustainable business

At TNZI, as part of Telecom New Zealand, we invest significant effort in being a responsible global player.

  • Telecom works with the New Zealand Government, and local/regional authorities, in developing environmentally aware policy and regulation. We are working with the Ministry for the Environment to develop National Environmental Standards for telecommunications works.
  • Telecom is a member of the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development, sustainable business networks, the Climate Change Industry Group and more. These memberships enable us to share knowledge and identify ways to further reduce our environmental footprint.
  • Across our network, we make upgrade decisions to minimise electricity use.
  • We embrace Telecom's corporate recycling programme. We have reduced our vehicle fleet and acquired more fuel-efficient vehicles.
  • In the 2006/07 financial year, Telecom collected around 90,000 kg of mobile phones, chargers and modems for reuse and recycling (partnering Allied Electronic Recovery Worldwide).
