Matt Crockett, CEO, Telecom Wholesale & International
Matt is the Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Wholesale and International.
Heading the Wholesale business since July 2006 and International since July 2008, Matt reports directly to Telecom CEO Paul Reynolds and is part of Telecom’s Executive Team. He has been with Telecom New Zealand for over four years, and was General Manager for Wholesale NZ before being appointed Wholesale CEO in November 2007 and CEO Wholesale and International in July 2008.
His previous roles at Telecom include General Manager for Wired, Telecom’s retail fixed line voice, data and internet businesses, and earlier, Head of New Zealand Market Strategy, covering both fixed and mobile retail strategy.
Before joining Telecom, Matt was at global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company for seven years. In his last role as Associate Principal for the New Zealand office he was responsible for client relationships and projects across multiple industries.
Matt initially studied mining engineering in Western Australia before winning a Rhodes Scholarship for postgraduate study at Oxford University, where he completed a Master of Philosophy in Management, majoring in Finance and Organisational Behaviour.
An Australian by birth, Matt is now a New Zealand citizen. Outside work, he’s occupied with his young family, wife Justine and children Grace, Maia and Max. In the little spare time remaining he enjoys philosophy, free diving and spearfishing.
Anthony Briscoe, General Manager
Anthony has been General Manager of TNZI since 1994. Over that time, he has led a year-on-year increase in TNZI's profitability Anthony was instrumental in TNZI's evolution from being a traditional incumbent carrier, to becoming a world leader - one of the top 10 international carriers in the US.
"I've headed the business for a significant period now. I think that reflects the strength and stability of the team," says Anthony. "It's immensely rewarding to work in an environment where everyone embraces the organisational vision - it's truly remarkable what can be achieved."
Prior to 1994, Anthony held other senior management roles within TNZI. His career has included roles as New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Singapore and New Zealand Consul in Queensland, Australia; as well as Deputy Commissioner General for Expo 88 in Brisbane Australia. He has a Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma Export, and a Diploma International Marketing (Hons). He has also completed an Executive Development Program at Wharton Business School.

John Mitchell, Head of International Sales
John has headed TNZI's international sales group for over 10 years. During that time he's seen the number of partnerships TNZI has with telecommunication carriers and operators around the world rise from 60 to 200+.
"It's been a really exciting time with rapid ongoing growth," John says. "It's also enormously satisfying to see relationships with clients develop over time - some of the partnerships have been in place since the early-1990s.
After joining Telecom New Zealand as Sales Manager, International in 1990, John was appointed Pacific Regional Manager of TNZI's Carrier Relations group in 1994. Two years later, Europe and the Americas were added to his area of responsibility.
Before joining Telecom, John worked for British Telecom in London, UK and in New York, US. He is married with four children. He has a diploma in Telecommunications Studies from Oxford Polytechnic, UK. His recreational interests include renewable energy and hobby grape vines.
Kathryn Koopmanschap, Head of Product and Service Development
Kathryn is responsible for developing and promoting the TNZI products and services globally. With a dedicated team incorporating both IT and Marketing professionals, her focus is ensuring we deliver world class international communications services.
“If you listen to your customers, work closely with them to deliver to their requirements, and add to that the passion of the team at TNZI, you have a winning formula” she says.
Kathryn has worked in various IT&T companies for over 20 years, in New Zealand and England. Prior to joining Telecom in 2007, she was the Director of Global Supply Chain, Asia Pacific for EDS.
She has a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing in London, and an keen desire to make things happen. Trying to stay fit while still supporting the New Zealand wine industry takes up most of her non-business hours.
Craig Walton, Head of International Opportunities
Craig has headed the TNZI International Opportunities Team since 2007. His role sees him playing a key role in the establishment and development of new business opportunities all around the world.
"The work revolves around building successful partnerships. Telecommunications services are available from multiple sources. We're always doing all we can to deliver an edge - finding what really matters to potential clients and working with them to achieve it," says Craig.
Before joining TNZI in 2005, Craig was Commercial Operations Manager for Telecom New Zealand, a role he took on in 1996. He has a Bachelor of Business Studies in Accountancy from Massey University, New Zealand.
Charles Jarvie, Head of Technology and Operations
Charles joined the TNZI team as Head of Technology and Operations in 2007. Prior to his present role, Charles led the development of the Southern Cross Cable project for TNZI from 2006. He was also a director of Southern Cross and Telecom Cook Island Limited during that time.
From 2003 to 2007 Charles led the planning and building of the successful KAREN (Kiwi Advanced Research and Education Network) - the New Zealand Government's high-speed research and education network. KAREN is operated by Crown Entity REANNZ and connects universities, Crown Research Institutes and the National Library with similar networks worldwide.
"The trick is to continually adjust the balance point between achieving great service for customers while supporting an innovative and flexible development environment that both guides and supports our business direction," Charles says.
He is married with three children. His Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) is from the University of Canterbury.
Alan Meredith, Head of Strategy and Measurement
Alan has worked with Telecom and TNZI for over 20 years, and now heads our Strategy and Measurement team. This involves analysing markets around the world, and identifying opportunities for TNZI to secure and deliver the best services.
"Global telecommunications are evolving so fast - every year is a different scenario," he says. "Delivering an edge is all about being agile, swift and proactive as a company. At TNZI we do all we can to meet the market with the ideal service, as soon as it's needed."
Alan's previous roles have included Financial Investment Manager, National Service Quality Manager, and Plant Engineer. He has a family and rates 4WD driving amongst his interests. He has a Bachelor in Engineering (Hons) from the University of Canterbury.
Andrew Dalziel, Head of International Finance
Andrew is responsible for TNZI finance and settlement. He’s a qualified lawyer and accountant (University of Canterbury, New Zaland) with broad commercial experience in both the private and public sectors.
Before joining TNZI in 2008, Andrew spent two years with the New Zealand Government’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD), where he was Finance and Planning Manager for their back office functions. Prior to that, he worked for Barclays Bank in the UK for four years. In the late 1990s, Andrew was part of the tax team for Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Wellington)
“Finance is about adding value to the business,” says Andrew. “While it’s important that we meet our corporate and statutory responsibilities we also need to be identifying opportunities to improve financial performance. A crucial aspect of that is ensuring the key metrics are in place to maximise business efficiency.”
Tim Dunning, Head of International Pricing & Economics
A recent addition to the TNZI leadership team, Tim has been involved with TNZI in various guises for over six years including as Subject Matter Expert for a major capital project, Senior Product Manager and Pricing Analyst.
His latest role includes responsibility for both the product routing and pricing groups, tasked with operational management of financial performance optimisation via pricing and traffic routing support for products.
“TNZI operates in a highly competitive global market and constantly evolves new innovative products and pricing plans to meet the diverse needs of our customers. Pricing & Economics is about design, implementation and management in a highly dynamic environment. We have proved ourselves able to successfully meet these challenges in one of the world’s most fluid industries at this time.”
Prior to TNZI, Tim worked as a Performance Analyst at Telecom Mobile after returning from London where he managed a team of Commercial Analysts for Safeway Plc, a FTSE 100 company achieving NZ$4 billion of annual revenues.
Tim lives in Wellington, New Zealand where he enjoys several outdoor pursuits including mountain biking, skiing and diving.
Steve Batten, Head of Carrier Services Technology and Operations
Steve has more than 30 years of telecommunications technical operations and management experience. After joining Telecom New Zealand International as V.P. of Operations , TNZ USA in 2007 Steve was appointed Manager of Carrier Services Technology and Operations in 2010.
Telecom New Zealand International provides a suite of high quality, integrated voice and data communications products and services to commercial and carrier customers via it’s robust legacy and Next Generation Networks. Based on its Veraz softswitching platform, it has developed and deployed globally next generation, IP-based voice and data services.
Before joining TNZI Steve worked for Ericsson Inc. in a variety of technical and program management roles in the UK and in Plano, TX. Prior to that he worked for British Telecom in the UK. Steve holds an HNC in Communications Engineering from Somerset College of Arts and Technology and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University.
